REMINISCENCE
Reminiscence:
Reminiscence is recalling events and memories from the past and is a tool that can be used to enable communication with people with dementia.
Reminiscence groups that focus on a particular theme, such as events of the 60s are very effective for the elderly. It can also be used more simply, in discussing memories that service users have growing up as a child.
This can be done by using pictures and photographs, ornaments or by listening to music. It provides opportunities for people with dementia to talk about events and memories from their past.
Do not forget that any information gathered through reminiscence can contribute to creating a person’s life history.
